    Satyr - Pressed Penny Charm

The satyr occupied Roman theatre as the embodiment of appetite unbound. Lust, wine, chaos, the body's demands made visible. Part man, part beast, satyrs served as comic relief in tragedy's aftermath.

The satyr represented what Roman order had to contain but couldn't eliminate: the Dionysian impulse, nature's claim on the cultivated citizen, the body's veto against the mind's authority. In the theatre actors became gods, heroes, and monsters by donning carved masks. Spectacle could be staged, laughed at, momentarily embodied. The mask allowed cautiously controlled possession. Removing it, returned you to merely human.

Acknowledge the beast that lurks beneath decorum. The appetite that staged fantasy cannot sedate.

Perpetually grinning through etiquette's thin veneer.
